i was thinking the other day that some places like were i live tend to have alot more japanese martial art teachers than their are chinese martial art teachers. there are is only one place where i live that teaches kung fu and still it is still quite far to travel and i know many others probably have the same trouble. so how are you going to learn a martial art that doesn't get taught in our area, so i thought that some people in this forum may be will to teach their style over this forum using maybe a video, picture and descriptions. maybe it doesn't have to be the whole martial art just teaching basics. also this could help people that want to be instructors and can practice by explaining it on the forum.

I think it's impossible to learn a martial art via internet or video. But an internet sylabus covering info about the style and covering the syalbus from white to black belt isn't bad for students who are wanting to practise or even get a head start into the new style they may take up in real life. Also iv got qualified martial art instructors etc who are going to support this and even hold regular gradings all world wide recognized for students to grade in belts without taking lessons in real life. Although this will take a little while longer for me to fully setup.
it depends on what you want to learn it for, like me i want to learn basic blocks from different styles so i can use integrate them in to my mma and what is the point in starting a martial art if you only wont to learn the blocks. some people may do boxing but to defend them self better in a street fight they may wont to learn kicks.
btw what is your new website going to be called taocole

I'm mostly with Ben on this one but only for someone's first art. Once you get the foundations of body movement down then you can pretty much learn any art pretty well with enough practice. In general you will be able to feel when a move is correct or not, even if it is a new move from a new style.
If your foundations are dodgy then anything else you learn will risk toppling over.
Learning a style from scratch over the internet is dodgy and may lead to bad practise in the future
I would not advise it.
agree with ben there is so much a teacher will need to explain even to know the basics. therefore i dont think you can learn from a video or the internet

My new website is now runing. Launched last night so brand new feel free to start filling it with content etc.....loads of new features will go up in time.
I don't think it works, a good MA teacher have to see his or her students performing and sparring so then the teacher can teach and students can understand the right move, the right way, etc., MA are not like aerobics, so you can't learn MA froma Jane's Fonda video, you need a Master of the Art by your side helping you in each step.
Anyway, good luck with your idea.
I think video and pictures on the internet can give you some good advice on how to improve something you already know. I don't know about learning new arts from scratch.
However, I can strongly recommend people not to try and learn Capoeira over the internet from scratch, since you have to play with someone to play in the roda (which, after all, is one of the major things that playing Capoeira is all about), it would be like learning to talk without ever having a convosation with somebody.

Nah, if one already had understood it, it is up to the one to improve via discipline, devotion, and practice
