Question Tae kwon-do problem

Ok i've just started TKD and i have a major problem, its slightly embarassing but here it goes; everytime we get into a lesson i keep farting. Also i get a gas build up which prevents my kicks my reaching there full potential.

People have said:

Its down to my diet - I eat normally with ocassion stuff like a bisquit etc...(a little overweight, hope to change this)

Its down to muscles - My teacher said that as different muscles contract it makes this happen.

What i think: I think its to do with the huge lunges etc..

So what should i do?

I think it is anxiety.

You can try anti-gas over-the-counter tablets.

Perhaps you may want to monitor what you consume and when before class.

Personally, I like the liquid stuff that contains some sort of magnesium, but MartialMan's got a good idea on the gas remedies.

Anxiety is probably another cause.

Really, it's probably a combination of causes listed above.

Definitely want to take a look at your diet. I'm not knocking you here, but what most Americans (myself included, really) call a "normal" diet isn't. I've found that eating a small portion of lean meat (six ounces or so), a moderate amount of starches (usually rice, but sometimes whole wheat bread), and a bunch of veggies (pick your veggies carefully, though. If your body isn't used to onions, they'll make the problem worse, for example) helps keep gas down during a training session (I have stomach problems, and get bloated at times). Cut out sodas for several hours before training (if you drink them, if not, ignore this). Aside from the potential cause of gas, the sugar and caffeine give you a rush that will end before your training does, leaving you worn out in the middle of class.

I'd suggest NOT drinking any soda's before class and If your classes aren't too late then you should try eating afterwords not before class.. as this should help reduce your problem. Also, cut out cabbage, and greasy foods as well! Try to eat a "light" lunch on training days and start working out at home on your own, use the class stretches and warm ups and just do jumping jacks, etc and see if the problem persist there as well. And if you continue to have problems (at home and at the school) you should see a doctor, for this could be the result of an underlying condition.. (acid reflux, intestinal problems.. etc )

The only problem is that my parents refuse to learn how to cook so most of the things i eat are out of a box I'm also trying to work out a little routine to do a couple of days a week to increase flexibility etc..

That's a bit of a problem, but you could learn how to cook. If your family doesn't care what they eat, you can just make meals for one. I do this often, as my wife isn't always home when I am.
There are a few things that aren't difficult to cook, like stir fry and pasta (remember to put extra veggies in the sauce).

I drink about 4 protein shakes a day, I assure you they make me very gassy. Def watch what you eat before class, stop eating about 2 hours before class. Get all of the calories you'll need before then. If you train at six oclock. Have maybe 3 or 4 smaller but complete meals before 4 oclock. You'll have energy for class.

Also relieve yourself before class, that way you can let out the pressure in private. If you arent regular then start eating your vegetables, they are great for cleaning out your digestive system, if you can skip the dressing they defeat the purpose. Also you can switch to Special K protein plus cereal by Kellogs. It has 10g of protein and 5 grams of fiber, so along with the milk its really good for you. Also eating and drinking slower allows less air to get into your stomach, so I hear.

Try to time your meal so you have few hours to digest before your TKD class. Diet and anxiety does play some role. I remember when I was looking forward to my class at 7PM, I would eat at 4PM so I would have time to get rid of the gas before class.

Looks like all the advice I was going to suggest has already been given, but the most important thing here is diet. Even if your parents are bringing home take-out or fast food. You can ask them to get you a salad.

I dont think me learning to cook is an option my parents would just say "your only being stupid", my parents are not at ALL supportive, my training is at 8pm - 9:30pm so i should:

- Stop eating at 5pm?

- Eat special k/get more protein and fibre

- Watch out for greasy food and fizzy drinks

- Try to do more exercise

Anything else?

Cabbage? Who eats cabbage on a regular/routine basis?

Youre more likely to get gas from egg consumption (more often consummed)

Besides, is this gas a TKD Problem

Ive done it myself to get my training opponent off me when we were on the ground.

It seems to be worse when one does a spinning kick, and it is timed upon the scompletion of the spin. Worse, the air generated from the leg and body, seem to "fan it"
