Tae Kwon Do Discussion

My Question:
I have become a little frustrated, watching other Taekwondo fighters being repeatedly beaten. Now my question is, why do you think that is?

My Opinion:
The only fights that I have seen where we win are fights where the TKD fighter has either cross trained or though I think I might just be a little over biased, comes from the ITF. Now I know for a fact that ITF Taekwondo is not a PC martial art. Especially in the United States, as its origins come from N. Korea.

Now what are your opinions on this matter?

The ITF was not founded in N. Korea... It was founded my General Choi from S. Korea. The ITF is associated with N. Korea, because after Choi went on a "Friendship Trip"(Business Trip) to N. Korea, The South Koreans would not let him back... So he stayed in N. Korea's Capital, PyeongYang and made the ITF Office of Central PyeongYang. Now, N. Korea's dictator president is the leader of the ITF...

And Of Course, Kim Jong Il(North Korea's Dicator) Is A 11th Dan(Which Is Impossible)

It's because they go to a McDojo or they simply don't train enough.... Practice Makes Perfect

Sloppy hand techniques/no hand techniques, no cross training no ground experience... slow and lacking combinations. Throw 7 kicks, 5 will be blocked or miss but two, two will hit and it will show... definitely.

Yes, the biggest problem with TaeKwonDo is that the Hands are not used much...

Luckily our GwanJangNim Teaches us hand techniques

i think in those videos example muay thai vs TKD the mt fighter is a good fighter no doubt. but tkd guy in that video lacks the belief that he can win and his sparring suffers. also if you fight one set of rules all the time eg no low kicks an then spar a guy who has been using low kicks alll the time he is training then he has a big advantage.

Big problem that a lot of Tae Kwon Doists face is that their idea of what constitutes Tae Kwon Do is very, very narrow. As a result, hand techniques fail to follow up kick techniques and TKDists can all too easily fail to realize just how important distancing is (especially if the rules of competition have been ingrained).

The problem becomes not what is taught, by how it is taught.

Proper Distance Is Essential When Throwing a Kick... If You're Too Close, You'll Miss The Target.. If You're Too Far Away, You'll Miss The Target...

Exactly my point. When two people who are both TKDists (99% of the people you find in TKD competitions) square off against one another they will both instinctively stay at kicking distance or farther. So, it is quite easy to get 'too used' to expecting your opponent to retain this distance. I've said it time and again on these boards: controlling the distance of the fight is the best skill a martial artist of any style can have.
