Well the US Army had brought allot of BJJ & GC to South Korea, I know a few ITF & WTF schools in Tongduchon & Seoul that offer BJJ classes to senor-belts.
Also, on the hand thing. Ali did it, until he got old and it happens in boxing allot its called the "Detriot Guard" the intent is to draw attacks to the head. It more important in MA as it leaves the legs open to sweeps. Just my 2 cents...

Business is as business does. If there is a market for ITF in a country, you can be sure that an ITF school will spring up there. (Same is true for any other style or organization.)

If you know the history and situation between NK and SK you would know why it would be strange to have an ITF school in SK...

There are ITF regestered insturtors in South Korea, but I think they are all refugees granted assylum. Most of the BJJ/GC schools I've seen are tied into TKD schools. All the schools with BJJ/GC added to their classes are schools were US Soldiers (being trained in GC and sometimes BJJ) married a South Korean or was a South Korean and later started their own school.
In fact, I had a friend of mine who (Sgt. Kang) who joined the US Army to help with citizenship, and retained duel citizenship with both the US and South Korea (I know America doesn't accept dual citizenships but South Korea does) and was the Asst. Instructor in an TKD school in Seoul.
Some how he convenced the owner & they added GC as part of schools training program (optional to the students) who had gained their first black belt or higher. It attracted allot of new students and actually brought up the reputation of the school alittle.
He had different soldier who wanted to help, with MA training to give brief classes on different martial arts. I gave a 2 hour class on Judo throws and takedown when I took incountry leave before I came back to the States when I got out the army.

I was told they don't accept dual citizenships period, but that was years ago. Learn something new everyday...
I did a little bit of research about it just to be sure. Apparently this is a more recent decision since a lot of countries refused to recognize the required denouncing of previous citizenship that the US used to force. There was also a supreme court decision which more or less established the precedent that dual-citizenship is protected by the 14th amendment.
In the case of South Korea, I found an account of an American born Korean (1st generation) who had to call a trip to his motherland short because South Korea technically recognized him as a citizen because he was in danger of getting called for the draft. So, if you are the son/daughter of a natural born Korean, then you are automatically a Korean citizen. All you have to do to really affirm that is to apply for a passport from Korea. (Although, for most people the advantage of having two passports is minimal.)
