The black belt is not a mark or symbol of the end of the journey to ones mastery of the arts; rather it is the mark that one is done packing for their journey and may now take the first step in their true journey. This a journey which can not ever be complete, only traveled..."
It still bothers me how they just keep their hands down by their side and don't bother to block..... You don't see any of them trying to use their hands to score points, it's always the kicks. Still, cool videos.

Punches are used, but to score they need to be of the one punch one kill type. You really need to drive a punch into the hogu to get it scored.
The hands are down because as you know face punching is not allowed, and lower hands protect the hogu better. To protect your head you should mostly use distancing.

I understand. It's the rules that make the fighters train according to taking advantage of the rules.
In HRD, we are not allowed to kick to the back of someone, so sometimes you see guys when they are in trouble, they just turn their backs to their opponent, completely exposing it. Also, the backfist to the face is not allowed, so they are not aware of that surprise ever coming.
I'm pretty surprised, quite a number of those actually are knock outs. Usually when people say "knock out" in a TKD competition, they mean "knock down".
And yeah, Complete, these wouldn't happen if people kept their hands up.
Cool video, but I have to agree with complete that it's annoying to see people sparring with their hands flopping aroun near their waists. That's such a bad habit to get in to.
In kyokushin we weren't allowed to punch to the head during kumite either, but we were still trained to keep our hands up in guard.

i never seen that video. cool enjoyed the background music, it would be very embarrassing to get KOed by that very slow autobahn kick dude pulled off lol.
we always keep our hands up but for olympic sparring some people do, some people dont, my GM says if you get knocked out because u didnt keep your hands up its your fault and he's not gonna cry for you.
if im doing tkd sparring or against another style i sometimes drop my hands to taunt and lure my opponent.

Fun vids but the point sparring was never really my bag. There are so many good uses of TKD fo SD that point sparring seems like a waste of time to me. I would rather train at a boxing gym than do point sparring. Still some of those dudes were incredibly fast with their feet.

correct me if im wrong but you get told to never really defend in TKD and always go for attacks, which i spartly the reason why hands are never used to block kicks

going in for attacks all the time wont end pretty against opponents trained in proper gyeorugi sparring cause they are
trained to block with their hands...not a full force block though cause that can be damaging, but blocking/parrying at an angle in addition to using counters and defense.

But even the point that they have theyr hands down by there sides to defend the target area is a bout strange because there are more effective ways to defend the area, from the video you can see they only attack, yes they may parry kicks etc. however they dont seem to do it intentionally rather there hand was there at the right moment

In sport TKD if an opponent is overly agressive they open themselves to counter attacks. That's why Olympic sparring can be so boring at times, both sides are afraid to leave an opening when they attack. Counter attacking is quite devastating, and makes an opponent think twice before opening with an attack again.
