I love pushing kick. It's great for intercepting people moving forward.

Thanks, Soul! Tonight I'll get to see how some of the other students from my school did. I felt bad because I couldn't stay and watch them even though some of them watched me. I competed at 9:30am. Everyone else wasn't competing until 1:30 or 3:30pm.
I know how that goes. LF and I are always competing late in the afternoon after our students have all finished by 12:30 or so. We never have much of a cheering section.

Kinda extraneous, but I wasn't aware that push kicks weren't part of TKD curriculum. It's incorporated into the basics of my style of TSD. There's a difference in the styles for the naysayers, I suppose.
We use it, but it is not practiced much. In point sparring, it's better to have your body turned and your front shoulder pointed at your opponent...therefore, side kick is emphasized more.

I had a guy try to intimidate me by charging at me...I just stood there and threw that push kick...he fell on his arse!

I've had that happen in point sparring matches, too. At the August AKC tournament I fought a middle weight in one of the matches leading up to the grand championship, and he was a big middle weight. He charged me every time the center said "Fight!", and I just threw up a side kick. He ran into it every single time and lost without scoring a point.

Yup, those people are funny to spar! It's like they don't get it. You just stick your leg up and they run right into it. Less work for me!

Congrats, Bloodstrike. Sounds like an excellent outing. I am assuming that was traditional point sparring, not continuous? I like continuous point sparing as I feel I can get into a rythm and score better. Otherwise, I'm the idiot that runs in and gets the loss with no points scored. I like to give a point to score 2, if you know what I mean.

Thanks, SC! Yup, traditional point sparring. Our tourneys do not have continuous sparring yet. I have heard that the next major tourney in Texas is supposed to have continuous sparring and submission type sparring (this type of sparring will start out on your feet, but if it goes to the ground, you have 30 seconds to try and submit your opponent otherwise they will stand you back up).
I hear ya on the give a point to score 2...I have that mentality when I spar in class!

I would be the guy giving a point to get two when I sparred in tourneys too. Okay I'll take the shot on the shoulder, but now I'm inside your gaurd and I've played a staccato on your ribs. Now what? Judge: Point other guy.
I have quite long arms but I like to work in close and shut down my opponent by getting deep in the guard. And I have never been overly worried about taking a shot or two to the chest or shoulders if it gives me an opening on my opponent. My one problem with point sparring.
Even if I do ref point sparring from time to time.. *laughs*
Oh and many congratulations on your placing, I am not very good at form or sparring so I don't place when I do bother competing. Well done.!
