See, I disagree. I think it would help to know about other arts, even if you've never studied them. That way at least you know they exist, and you can know what to expect from the guy.
No offence but this is the mentality that one step sparring and forms give to people, i pose the question how will you find out what art your attacker knows? Also how can you tell what attack he will actually use, just because i do grappling arts doesnt mean i wont punch you. And another thing you must learn to be able to react out of instinct instead of thinking well he does TKD so hes going to kick me, now what can i use to counter that. Instead you should develop a solid set of moves which become like instinct so it doesnt matter what attack comes in because you can defend yourself in some way against it

Maybe you're right. Maybe you're all right, I don't know. I've never been in a situation like this before, so I don't know. I'm just hypothesizing.
I can't remember what my original point was, but I think it goes back to how I used to not even know what ground fighting was. If I got taken to the ground, do you mean to tell me that I would be better off if I STILL had no idea what ground fighting was? Because I think I would be even more screwed.

Which is more dangerous if you get taken to the ground, not knowing anything and realizing it or not knowing anything and not realizing it. I don't know which is worse. Personally, I'd rather be familiar with all aspects of fighting, but then I study martial arts from a self defense standpoint foremost.

You are still screwed even if you know what ground fighting is, UNLESS you learn a bit about ground fighting from a qualified instructor. Just a few months at a decent school can go a long way to making you much more competent on the ground for self defense situations.
I am still learning Keumgang so I wouldn't call it my favorite. I'm still trying to figure out which way the diamond blocks go! My fave has got to be Koryo with all the kicks.
