At my school, we don't have a purple belt level. The progression is: white, yellow, orange, orange + 1 strip, green, green + 1 stripe, green + 2 stripes, red, red with 1, 2, 3 stripes then black. Where does purple fit in?
Most likely Orange with stripe. Ours start with white, yellow, orange, purple, green, blue, brown, red, red/black in center, red/black on bottom, red/black on top, and black.

There are so many makiwara training in karate like that. Ask your sensei. Note: Dont do it without your sensei's advice.
I just received my Green Belt! Each Belt I earn and everyday I train, I have more respect for the men and women who have been doing martial arts for years. This is truly a way of life.

Yes when I studied Tang Soo Do we had the same belt format. I studied under Grand Master Richard Byrne. Or atleast under his chain. We were part of the ATA and ITF what organization do you belong to?

The black belt is not a mark or symbol of the end of the journey to ones mastery of the arts; rather it is the mark that one is done packing for their journey and may now take the first step in their true journey. This a journey which can not ever be complete, only traveled..."
