I just passed my purple belt test. It is highly intense. I am really enjoying my class. I started last January. I am 40 years old and in a class of mostly young people and it is great. If you are considering taking classes and your on the fence, just go for it. Tang Soo!
Thnx, Since I started this class I have a new and greater respect for black belts in all the different styles. I can see at least a part of what they must go through to get a black belt. Hard Work.
I go to class 2-4 a week. Each class is about 2 hours. When I practice by myself at home or at the dojang it is about 30 mins to 1 hour. I do my forms, push ups, situps, bong and short sticks drills. I also do some triceps workout with 20lbs dumb bells.
What type of ground exercises are best? I thought that building tri's even with weights would help with punches.
Best exercise for punches: Squats
Also: pulldowns, rows, bench press
Working biceps and triceps is really not that useful if doing the other exercises above.

Weight lifting practise would be like what you got strength. But If you haven't practise after few days, you will be a feelings like what you lost your strength. If you want to improve your punch, you can get your punch weight through makiwara, tamishwari technics.

At my school, we don't have a purple belt level. The progression is: white, yellow, orange, orange + 1 strip, green, green + 1 stripe, green + 2 stripes, red, red with 1, 2, 3 stripes then black. Where does purple fit in?
