He almost got the submit when he had Royce's arm. If it was anybody, they would've tapped. Royce looked like he'd rather lose the arm than give up.
He somehow got out. But Matt stayed on top and started pounding back of Royce's head. By UFC rule, if the fighter cannot intelligently defend himself, they stop the fight and that's exactly what happened.

Tough way to come back into the UFC - new rules and facing a dominate fighter like Matt Hughes. You gotta give Gracie credit for even taking on this challenge, sure it's no problem after a few "warm up" fights, but he came back and took on the most dominate champion in UFC history! Hope it was a good fight to watch since they really hyped it up for the past month or so.
