I read an article on UFC60 from Blackbelt Magazine this morning. Matt Hughes were reported saying that he heard Royce's elbow making popping sounds when he was going for the armbar, which Royce did not tapout and somehow got out of. Matt knew Royce was not going to tapout and didn't want to break the arm so he changed his strategy.
Royce did not have any expression of pain while his arm was being bent like that. If Matt heard those popping sounds, I wonder if his arm is really broken. We haven't heard anything from Royce's camp since the loss. During the after fight interview, Royce said he's got couple more years of fighting in him.
Most people would've tapped out long ago. I remember watching it and thinking it's going to break. Royce probably would've rather had his arm broken than give up. Even when he was getting punched on his head, if referee didn't stop the fight, Royce would've just taken the beating until end of the round. He almost survived the first round, if he could've lasted 20 or so more seconds.
