Lesnar said before the fight that he would "easily beat Coture". Didn't look like it was an "easy win" to me. But, I guess a win is a win...right? Even if it's not deserved.
That UFC was one of the best UFCs I've seen in a long time! Only 1 fight went the distance and that fight, Gurgel vs Riley, was probably the best fight of the night!
Huge congrats to Kenny Florian! I have met Kenny numerous times, he visits our acamedy often and couldn't be a nicer guy.
Props to local boy Aaron Riley, he is now the MMA instructor for One Spirit here in Herdon, VA and it's an honor to have someone with his credentials teaching in my neck of the woods.
I was happy when I heard my instructor Mario Yamasaki was asked to ref the Lesnar/Couture fight because Lesnar did not want another bad stand up like he had in the Mir fight. Mario did great at letting them fight, and the stoppage was perfectly. I am obviously biased, but seriously Mario does a good job at letting guys just fight in there.
Props to Lesnar, he really showed that he has been training the right way and did exactly what he needed to do to beat Couture. Very impressive.

I can understand that he shouldn't of gotten a shot at the title, but he did knockout the champion. It wasn't something like a bad call from the judges. Let's just see how well he works to defend the title, see if he really deserves it.

The description in this thread says that Coture "collapsed". I saw the fight, and it looked more like Coture FELL than collapsed. With that being said, Coture was regaining his composure (from underneath Lesnar) when Yamasaki called the fight. It was a TKO, not a KO. The result is the same, but the technicality of the calling is different.
Very impressive performance by Kenny Florian. He definitely deserves the next title shot. Except for that unanimous decision loss to Sean Sherk the last time.
It will be a great match between BJ Penn and Kenny. I wouldn't want to see Stevenson vs. Penn again.
Wow, I'll have to get that fight when it comes out on DVD. Good on Coutoure for holding his own in the grapples against a much bigger opponant, which shouldn't have surprised anyone since Randy has been fighting much bigger guys throughout his heavy wieght career. People have always underestimated him, including when he fought Liddell after shifting to the Light Heavy wieght group. Lesner though is a beast. As far as I'm concerned, if had faced Mir in a street fight or original UFC rules, his record would be undeafeated.

To add to this, Lesnar threw a right which slid right over Coture's head. It may have connected, but in the video replays I saw, Coture's head did not shake or move when that punch came. He did not suddenly just loose all muscular control or even partial control. He fell down, and Lesnar capitolized on it and overwhelmed him because of it. Coture's mistake, and Lesnar's capitolization ON that mistake. It was a good play by Lesnar, but I still don't like him.

No, from what I saw Couture got hit in the ear/temple area which can put you down. It's not a KO, of course, but once underneath Randy was dazed enough that he couldn't keep up enough to intelligently defend himself.

You got Nog beating Mir? Me too I just can't picture Mir catching him in anything.

Randy is a beast and one tough SOB but, no way was he regaining his composure. Yamasaki did the absolute right thing by putting the fighters safety first. Good fight good stoppage, why you got to hate?
Look Brock Lesnar is an amazing physical athlete. He fought a hell of a fight and deserves the credit he gets.
I dislike Lesnar because of statements like the one in his prefight interview where he said "I can beat Randy no problem". This is a pompus attitude. I figured that Randy would have beaten him, but I knew Randy had a hard fight ahead of him. I also wanted Lesnar to get hurt in this fight. Well, he came out of it with a cut over his eye. Thats good enough for me. Did anyone else notice him wipe his eye after it happened and look at the blood? I thought he slowed down a bit when that happened. Then Randy went down, and Lesnar unleashed. But....2" hammerfists don't hurt very much form a normal sized man....of course, Lesnar is 3x the size of a "normal sized man". LOL So I'm sure they hurt a bit.

^ LOL Well, I just get sick of hearing egotistical muscleheads talking s***. I don't even care if they can back it up. To get an ego is not how things need to be done. Plus, for Dana White to feed off it and feed INTO it, speaks volumes about him as well. I used to think he was a decent guy also....But now I'm begining to think he is just out for the almighty dollar like eveyone else. Ego's suck.

Don't they usually have 10 minute pre-fight trash talk footage? I'm no expert but it seems to be an awful lot of these fighters trash talk.

Seriously? I mean really, you're serious about this? You don't think an athlete should have an ego?

I agree, this just tells me that you haven't been around a lot of top level competitive athletes Gambatte.
In order to make it to the upper echelons of any competitive environment (sports, business, etc..) you have to HATE losing. Most of the time, you are probably going to be at best a bit narcissistic as well as OCD. My experience being around successful athletes is that they are like this BEFORE embarking on their careers...this is what enables them to get where they are.
They are not compassionate, caring, humble people usually. When you find one like that, it's rare. They have to be like this, they have to want to win at any cost and do whatever it takes to get there.
I have seen this in the BJJ world, the MMA world, and the business world. The Michael Jordans of the world are the same personality type as the Bill Gates of the world. They would have been successful in whatever they did, but they also just happened to have specific talents.
Lesnar is like this...he wants to win and believes that he can. Don't look at him as a role model, to expect him to be one is OUR fault not his.
