Kenny again going for the high kicks. Sean goes for the takedown but Kenny escapes. Sean got the take down against the fence, and starts to throw some elbows. Both fighters very slippery with a lot of blood. Crowd is chanting Kenny. Sean is continuing to stay on top and lands some punches and elbows. Sean has landed some nasty elbows and Kenny is holding on dearly. Referee stands them up with less than 30 seconds. Kenny goes for the body kick. 4th round ends.
Fifth round starts off with kenny kicking, but Sean takes him down and again punches and elbows fly. Kenny almost got the armbar but too slippery. Referee stands the fighters up. Kenny goes for the high kicks. Sean waits and takes him down but Kenny has the guiltone choke on Sean with 2:40 left. Sean gets out, lifts him up and body slams him down. The round ends with Sean on top.
Anderson Silva has defeated Rich Franklin by KO in the first round and became the new Middleweight Champion.
Both fighters were cautious feeling each other but once Silva clinched with Franklin and had him in Muay Thai clinch, he started throwing some knees to the body and landed a knee against Rich's face, which made Rich stumble, then he followed up with a kick, and another clinch and knee, Rich went down and John McCarthy called the fight at that point.

Wow what an upset I feel bad for Rich his nose looked terrible. Hopefully he can heal up and get a rematch very soon. ( he needs to work on breaking that thai clinch )
Rich didn't look so good yesterday. As soon as he was clinched up, he couldn't do much and Anderson was doing some serious damage with knees to the body, then one that connected with Rich's nose was a hard hit.
What a night! Who would've thought that someone with only 1 UFC win would have a chance against someone as dominant in the middleweight as Rich Franklin.
Let's not forget the other fight. Sean Sherk vs. Kenny Florian.
It was a dominating performance by Sean. He pretty much stayed on top of Kenny for the entire 5 rounds, even with that nasty cut to his head. I give Kenny a lot of credit for hanging in there and a little knock on Sean for not able to finish the fight. He even had the full mount at one point but he just couldn't finish it.
He'll be a force to be at lightweight. I wonder who can challenge him.
