Round 3
Florian misses yet another head-kick lead. He ties up with Penn against the cage. Florian gets busy with a knee to the body and an elbow upstairs. Penn slips in an uppercut as he fights off a Florian takedown. Florian attacks with a right hand and Penn grazes a right hand off his opponent’s forehead. Florian again fails miserably on a takedown and Penn makes him pay with a hard knee to the midsection. Florian fails on another and Penn hits a switch. He stands up swinging and Florian retreats. Florian missed a head kick at the bell.
Round 4
Florian ducks under a right hand and clinches with Penn at the fence. Penn smacks Florian with a right hand and slams him to the canvas. Penn starts to work his game from the top in half guard. Florian is landing effective elbows from the bottom. Penn is looking to pass to mount, and Florian is barely blocking the champion as he tries to free his isolated foot. Penn mounts and Florian gives up his back. Penn moves back to the mount. Penn turns him over and drives his right heel into the liver. Penn sinks his arm under Florian’s chin and forces a tapout with a rear-naked choke at 3:54 of the fourth round.
The Penn Florian fight was GREAT! IMO. I loved how Penn would slip under Florians punches and come up on the side and plow his head with a right. It was AWESOME! And it shows why BJ Penn is so good at what he does. I want to train with him some time. I think that would be AWESOME! I think that BJ Penn is one of the best fighters in the UFC. Could he take on Lesnar? Not a chance. He gives up like 100 lbs to LEsnar, but if Lesnar weighed the same as Penn, Lesnar would get OWNED!
BJ couldn't beat GSP but Lesnar is definitely out of the question. The best PFP fighter debate would still go on with Silva, GSP, and Fedor, but not BJ.

Silva knocking out Franklin was kinda weird. The only other time I think I've seen something like that was the Petrozelli/Slice fight. LOL Speaking of whom, Seth petrozelli is going to be at the USF Sun Dome on Aug 22nd.

You mean SIlva knocking out Forrest Griffin? I agree that was kindof weird, he dropped him with a jab. I think Forrest was shatting in his pants when Silva was taunting him with his hands down and Forrest couldn't land a blow. Forrrest was just looking for a way out of the cage.

Well, I went 8 and 3 on this one. Really though, I feel like I actually went 9 and 2 because the Thalas Leites decision was terrible. Terrible.
I also missed the BJ/Kenny fight because I went with my heart on that one.
But for real, that's some of the best BJ has looked in a long time. And I still say, a BJ Penn that wants to fight is not only the best PFP fighter out there, he's probably the best PFP fighter the sport has ever seen. The guy has top notch skills at every, single level and has never been submitted or knocked out.
Great event to see live and in person, the show was a good and the audience was as out of control and drunk and uneducated as I would expect.

I went 7 & 4 on that one. I was very disappointed with the Silva/Griffen fight. It was just like TKD said - he was just looking for a way out of the cage.

I have still never been to a live mMA event. I really need to make it to a UFC event.

it was interesting
largely due to the drunk people having sex in the stands behind us (sadly, I am not joking)
it was a good event. I was blown away by Silva - that guy is just at a totally different level. I was cheering for Forrest, but then again he entered the ring to Dropkick Murphy's - so I was practically REQUIRED to root for him
Joe I actually picked Sakara but I agree that decision was horrible. Good to see Batman win. And yes an in shape BJ is one of the best P4P fighters in the world.
