Round 3
Shogun lands a snapping kick to the body and Machida is looking frustrated. The pace slows and the crowd briefly lets the fighters hear it. Machida goes to the midsection with a kick. Machida draws Shogun in and unloads with a right hand. Rua drops levels for a takedown and Machida stops it. Shogun lands two hard low kicks and a crushing kick to the ribs. It appears as Machida has been out scouted in this bout, as Rua is having his way with Machida with low kicks whenever the champion raises his leg to attack. Machida and Shogun exchange and Shogun gets the better of it with a hard-counter right. Machida landed a knee to the gut to start the trade, but was hurt by Rua’s right.
Round 4
The pace slows in the first championship round. Rua lands a kick to the leg and body. Machida slips and Shogun sprints in to score a takedown. The reflexes of Machida are on display as he springs to his feet and stops the challenger’s advance with underhooks. Machida steps forward and is absolutely blasted with a knee to the body. Machida seems content to drop the round as he circles and avoids Rua for the final minute.
Round 5
Both fighters land simultaneously as Shogun connects with a kick to the body and Machida scores with a straight-right hand. Machida sneaks in a right on the chin and a knee to the body. Rua clinches with the champion and referee Herb Dean separates them. Rua lands a standing elbow and a right hand. Rua stays on the attack, but starts to miss wildly as Machida shows the movement that made him famous. Rua dances in the cage and counters a fast punching attack by Machida with a knee.
All three judges score the fight 48-47 for Lyoto Machida, who takes the unanimous decision. The crowd boos the scores.
The worst decision in the history of MMA. The UFC should be investigated as there is no way that the decision was correct, complete and total fix!
Sadly, I have to agree. I will also say that I expected some shenanigans when Herb Dean stepped into the ring as ref. I think he's the worst ref the UFC has.
ANYWAY, I was slightly confused also, until I took into account the fact that Machida landed more punches and kicks than Rua. Rua was more aggressive, but as usual, Machida was more accurate.
I was HIGHLY disappointed in the fight as a whole though. I was let down.
However, I AM happy that I won $20 because of my prediction of the outcome. I predicted it would go the distance, and that Machida would win by decision.
Also, I have to admit that Machida fights like I usually spar....Hands down, and waiting in the outer reaches. LOL

But Rua landed more punches and kicks then Machida, almost twice the amount actually 82 to 42. I'm glad that you realize that he didn't really win the fight GK I respect that integrity of charecter

I told you guys this fight was going to be a snore fest. That being said, I think this decision was god awful and even Dana White agreed.
Shogun won that fight pretty much the same way Machida won most of his fights. Machida clearly took more damage and was not the aggressor in the fight. The only thing Machida did that was a checkmark on his side was stop the takedowns.
I had Shogun up 4 rounds to 1, and that was being generous for Machida I thought. This makes the UFC as suspect as Pride was in it's day in my opinion and takes away some legitimacy from the organization.

I agree!!! Besides, I'm already a bit upset with UFC with the whole 'no-girls allowed' policy unless of course they are wearing thongs and prancing around in high-heels... I mean seriously.. how many male fighters would do this

Actually, I agree with you. I hate the ring girls concept, it's unnecessary and lowers the integrity of the sport.
We used to joke that during a female MMA match they should have like Chippendales guys doing the ring cards, that would be hysterical!
