What? This is the event he's waited for 2 years since the first loss. UFC 63 is all about Hughes vs. GSP. Without that main event, it's not much of an UFC PPV. Hope he's alright.
I really wanted to see a rematch between Hughes and GSP but a rematch between Hughes and BJ Penn is good also. I feel really bad for GSP for not able to fight he waited so long for.
Don't underestimate BJ. Even though he lost the decision to GSP, he did more damage to GSP than GSP did to BJ. He mentioned that while GSP spent that night in the hospital, he spent that night in the bar. And it was a split decision, which means it really could've gone either way.
This will be the biggest test for Hughes, to face the who last beat him.
Remember what happened to Babalu. He dominated before the loss to Chuck and he dominated after the loss, but when he faced Chuck again, well he lost.
Will it be the same for Hughes? He dominated the welterweight division before the loss to BJ and he's dominated since.
I haven't seen BJ fight lately. I hope he's been training really hard. Hughes has gotten better and better with each fight. I like Matt's work ethic and he just seems unstoppable right now.
That is bad news for GSP, but I'm sure he'll get another shot.
It's probably more meaningful fight between Hughes vs. Penn than Hughes vs. GSP. Hughes has already beaten GSP before so if Matt wins, it doesn't mean much. But against Penn, Matt has a chance to avenge his last loss, if he wins. And if BJ wins, he gets to be the welterweight champion he walked away from couple of years ago.
I'm sure GSP will get his shot against Matt Hughes. If Matt wins, he may have to fight Diego Sanchez first. Who knows.
