BONNAR FACES HAMILL AT UFC FIGHT NIGHT

Stephan Bonnar will return to action in the Ultimate Fighting Championship to face another Ultimate Fighter alum in Matt Hamill on April 2, he confirmed via his official website. He also confirmed previous reports that the fight will be held in Denver, Colo., although no site has been officially announced by the UFC.

After dealing with a state sanctioned suspension in Nevada, Bonnar returned to action in July defeating Mike Nickels, then moving on to UFC 77 in Cincinnati where he defeated Eric Schaefer to continue his successful comeback.

Bonnar has now relocated full-time to Las Vegas and become a vital part of the team at Xtreme Couture, where he looks to continue the climb back up the light heavyweight ladder.

Hamill is returning in this fight after one of the most controversial decisions in UFC history with his loss to Michael Bisping in September. Instead of a rematch with the Ultimate Fighter season three winner, Hamill instead watched as Bisping fought Rashad Evans at UFC 78. The British fighter will now drop down to compete in the middleweight division, short-circuiting any hope for a rematch in the near future.

Hamill was undefeated previous to his fight with Bisping and he will no doubt look to finish the fight with Bonnar to avoid any kind of judges’ decision in this bout.

While no official announcement has come from the UFC about the event or its location, Denver seems like a prime location for an event. The area has a large MMA community including shows like Ring of Fire, is home to fighters such as Nathan Marquardt, and is the birthplace of the UFC.
