Wow! Randy Couture V Brock Lesnar. Randy is older & maye more experienced & ring savvy as he proved in his fight with Tim. Both men are basically wrestlers. Brock is big & strong - younger than Randy. I think it will be a great fight.
Randy wanted to fight Fedor but since UFC won't let him off the hook until he fulfills his fight contract, I guess Randy finally gave in to get one out of the way so he can go free. Since Randy is the champ and Brock is fighting the champ, the question arose whether Lesnar has earned the #1 contender spot and he hasn't. But, it's two big names fighting so that's why UFC is letting Lesar get a title shot even though there are others who deserve it more than him. Also, UFC is depleted with heavyweight after all the good ones went to Affliction.

I'm not really too good on MMA politics but why did they all jump ship? Money?

That's why there are contract disputes...especially with Randy. UFC doesn't like competition. Fighters are signed to multiple fight deals exclusively to UFC and they are not allowed to fight anywhere else. Fighters feel they don't get a fair share of all the money UFC is making. UFC feels they deserve all the money since they pioneered the MMA that is today while they were losing money in the beginning. Affliction gave those big names guys a lot more money than UFC ever would (e.g. Tim Sylvia got $800K for 1 fight) but the question remains whether they can stay in business operating that way.

Did Affliction steal fighters from all ranks? And weren't they a clothing company?

They started as a clothing company, sponsoring a lot of the fighters, including UFC fighters. When they wanted to do their own promotion, UFC banned all of their clothes from UFC events.
They didn't really steal anybody. People who were up for a new contract after fulfilling all their obligations to UFC decided to sign with Affliction for more money.

So who are the other big MMA promoters? I remember catching a company earlier this year in American called I can't remember, Total Martial Arts? Or something with T.

Affliction didn't take to many fighters from the UFC, just Silvia and Arlovski. Josh Barnett, Pedro Rizzo, Ben Rothwell, Fedor all came from different orginizations. Affliction for sure has a stacked heavy weight division, the rest of their weight classes are kind of lacking though.
I forgot that both AA and Tim were no longer on contract with the UFC either when they signed. And the UFC opted not to resign them.

So if Affliction only took two fighters from the UFC, why are their heavyweight numbers quite low?
