The Ultimate Fighter 8Discuss SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Here
NOGUEIRA & MIR ARE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 8 COACHES Monday, May 12, 2008 - by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com Spike TV on Monday announced that Ultimate Fighting Championship interim heavyweight titleholder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champion Frank Mir will be the coaches for the eight season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The season, which premiers on Spike TV on Sept. 17, will return to the two-weight class format. It features light heavyweight (205-pound) and lightweight (155-pound) fighters. Production on season eight begins in late May, with the entire cast to be announced in September.
Nogueira and Mir, after serving as coaches, will meet in an as-of-yet unannounced pay-per-view event for the title.
Nogueira earned the interim championship designation by defeating former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 81 in February. He finished the fight with a strong comeback effort, choking Sylvia out early in the third round.
At that same event, Mir continued his return to the sport with a first round knee bar submission of former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar. Mir has held the UFC championship in the past, breaking Sylvia’s arm with a submission hold en route to the title. This will be his first title shot since returning from a devastating motorcycle accident that nearly endangered his life, and nearly ended his career.
I'm bit surprised that Mir getting the title shot before Brandon Vera, who beat him with a quick KO. Mir has been so so since his return to UFC, but did pull 2 winning streak finally.

Yeah but, Vera had his shot at #1 contender when he fought Silvia. Mir is a beast man I think it's going to be a very good fight. Frank Mir is one of the most overlooked heavyweights of all time. Remember before the accident Mir was considered by many to be the top heavyweight in the world even over Fedor.
Oh, I like Mir. I really hoped he'd be awesome when he returned back from the accident but he was a bit disappointing and he didn't even looked to be in shape the first few fights. Last few fights he started to be in shape and it was a great win against Brock Lesnar. He's definitely a very technical fighter on top of his huge physique.

Yeah no doubt, there is an interesting thing Brock Lesnar. I think in about a year dude will be an absolute beast.
Nogueira is a much better alround fighter, and would say a better coach, mir is a good fighter, but dont think he can compete at all with Nogueira.
Nogueira is to strong, to experienced and to well rounded.

I agree to a point but i think that, it could take longer, he i a big strong technical wrestler and he has shown improvments in other parts of his game.
I can see him in time being a large shawn sherk, great but there will always be better.
