My Homemade Weapon(s)

Hey guys. I need some help on the development of a weapon I'm making. See, I have the knack of taking ordinary everyday tools and turning them into lethal weapons. Try to guess what these originally were.

I want to know from you guys, how I can make these indistinguishable from garden shears. I mean, so far, I've sanded off the handles to remove the logo. Big whoop. I need to know what'll make it shine, and make it look like an official weapon.

To go along with this, I want to know what kind of weapon style could be used for these, and if there's a book out there for it. I don't want to be flipping these things around like an amateur. Here's another picture for size comparison.

Thanks.

If you go to a store that sells autobody stuff you can get sand paper up to 2500 grit and start sanding, I would start at 240 and work my way up to 2500, this finish is what is pretty typical of most high end handmade blades, This will take some time and effort but is worth it in the end

you could take a small round file and file grooves in the handle , evenly spaced clean groves always look good

or you could go with a more Tactical look and bead blast the blades and cord wrap the handles with black para cord.

and as with all edged weapons it must be razor sharp, I mean a smooth clean shave. scary scarp.

have fun

one of the best ways to get rust of anythink is to leave the metal in cheap coka cola from your local supermarket for about 2 days and each day turn it over and when you bring out use the wirey stuff to brush it off. its great trust me depending on how bad the rust is how long you leave it on there for though shear i would say only 2 days but for stuff that is basically all rust 4 day and don't forget to every day to turn it over

Sorry, but I immediately recognized that as a disassembled set of garden shears. Doesn't mean they won't be effective weapons. Many of the weapons that I learn are gardening implements first and foremost. (Be careful, though. If the weapons don't have a "full tang", they might break off at the "hilt")
I'm all for good old fashioned elbow grease to remove rust. I take a moderately fine sandpaper to the metal, then steel wool, then polish with a soft cloth and gun oil.

if you can straighten them out you could possibly use kali or escrima strikes. they are about the size of escrima sticks. pick up a few books on those to start then maybe go to some short sword techniques...even if you cannot straighten them out the same principals can apply

So seem pretty hardcore about this, so here would be my advice to make up a style about this. In addition to the escrima training I also suggest learning a bit about other chopping weapons. I'm not sure what it is called but there is a Chinese sword that would fit the bill. Also a cutlass, like you expect a pirate to use, would be good also. Then you should combine the principles of escrima with what you learned about those weapons.

Also I suggest you do a balance test on those weapons. Ideally a blade should balance right on the part where the blade connects to the hilt. It gives better control and reduces the strength required to hold it in any direction.

Good point. I'd like to add kukri to that list. Those are the blades that are shaped sort of like boomerangs, with the edge on the inside curve of the blade. Excellent chopping weapons, and even if there's no real "style" to their use, I'm sure there are people who have tips on how to use them effectively.

Alright. I plan on use both shears at the same time when fighting. I like the idea of the Kukri, but I don't think those were meant to be two-handed weapons, therefore making the training hard when I try to use both shears. I'm going to try the escrima though, thanks.

Only if you're using it. And please tell me that's blood, and not rust. Tetanus, anyone?

They're going to let you use the shears?

Dude, why don't you just buy some sticks? See, when you start, you're going to suck, and if you whip out the shears, the other guy might grab some swords. But because he's better than you, he'll cut you to ribbons, and then take your shears home, replace the cotter pin, and trim his hedges with it, and then what have you accomplished?

Yep, and the guy who first took the handle off of a grindstone and decided to use it as a weapon was an idiot, too.
Nothing wrong with coming up with new weapons or styles.

If you're talking about Sensei Okmuri, I know him. And he was and still is an idiot.

BTW, how did you know about that incident?
