Does anyone else do this? I have made a bunch of nunchuks, each time they get better. Also i like to craft my own wood swords. At my church we have this think called boffing, it is basically sparring with padded weapons of any kind. So people make there own weapons and try them out in battle. I have to say it is really fun.
Me and the guys at church have made every kung fu weapon you could think of, plus we make up our own weapons (they are very interesting). But ya, we make anything from padded butterfly swords
to bladed(the blades are pads) staffs. I just wanted to know if any of you do this or if we are just weird.
a while back there was a guy on this forum that would make his own weapons (but not padded) out of things he found around his house.... i don't think it is weird. no different than every single kid that has used the cardboard roll from wrapping paper to have an epic sword duel.
When I was in high school, my friends and I used to make nunchakus, shuriken, caltrops, and other weapons, and we loved it. It was the '80s, and ninjas were very popular. Recently I made my own pair of escrima sticks for practice, and they turned out very well.

Lol thats awesome you guys can do that, I've tried making swords and stuff but I fail sooo badly xD
Escrimas, bo staffs, and nunchakus are fairly easy because you're only working with wood. Shuriken and bladed weapons can be tricky. I was lucky enough to grow up out in the country where almost everybody learns how to weld and work with metal, so it made it easier for us to figure out how to make metal weapons.

My bos, escrimas, and nunchuks are almost always wood.
But I make my padded weapons out of pbc pipe and insulation/ swimming noodles for the pads. I usually plan the design, then cut the pbc pipe to the appropriate length. Then I would put on the padding, and secure it on with duct tape/electrical tape. Once everything is in place, I go over the whole thing with duct tape and electrical tape. I make some pretty good looking weapons. The best part is when I take them to church and we boff with them.
Styles: Cloak and Sabre, longsword style wuthout a name.

Curious-Church with combatives? What kind of church is this?
I know a guy who does blacksmithing, making medieval weapons and some armor.....
I live in the country also, I can make a bo staff easy, by taking apart an old broom and use the handle as it >.>;; but I could make other things also, like bird houses boxes and all kinds of stuff but when it comes to advance things like blades or something of advance I have to say I am a very big newbie ^^;;

A broom handle isn't a high quality bo/staff, also to mention its short, more like a jo
Well though I am begginer so far (Whit ebelt going on gold) we are not learning Bo staff yet, though I will only use the Handle as only to home made practice weapon until I get to learn it and buy the real staff and only preactice with the home made one so I dont damage the one I will be taking to class, as what I meant xD

Oh, contrare. I have used plenty of broom/rake/any kind of long-handled tool for Bo staffs. They work perfect. Especially for out door use. They are durable and they can really take a beating.

It is a Christian Church (non denominational) and it is the youth group that does it. We even have RPG-like scenarios where we fight
to protect our base or something like that. It is a pretty awesome church, I have to admit...
I am a custom knifemaker( who has been busy making knives for hunting season lately),and have been making MA weopons since I was a kid, I started using material that I found around the house but as craftmanship improved I started to invest in quality materails, I order my rattan for Arnis sticks from a caning supply company and clean up and burn them my self, I sell them where I train, I have also made a Red Oak bo I am working on a set of Kama's and a Katana but I need time to forge my own stuff instead of orders.
Keep working on them, You never know where weaponsmithing will take you.
