Sounds like politicians proposing banning laws that will not work in the long run.

Banning will only increase a frenzy of buying. Thus actually brining in more quantities.

Criminals are still going to get swords, and even more so illegally, BECAUSE they are lawbreakers....

Are your swords genuine Iaito's etc?
I suspect there will be circumstances to this law that will be ironed out within the near future.

I am a serving police officer and as far as I am aware, collectors and martial artists are still able to buy and possess swords, I buy swords on a regular basis as I am a regular user and collector... I have not been arrested!
No official change has been made to the Act which covers offensive weapons which means you can still possess in yhour own home, just not take out in public without lawful excuse (basically the same as knives).

The government are always passing new laws, or clamping down on something - yet it never works. The people who use swords to harm will pay no attention to this new law, making only the innocent people effected by it! The government need to seriously find ways of targeting the actual law breakers.......

Per my post #16;

Criminals are still going to get swords, and even more so illegally, BECAUSE they are lawbreakers....

A ban such as that could have a udnerlying effect to keep lawful people from going through the trouble of actual ownership. Thus limiting the quantitites that a criminal has access to , (in the event that the item is stolen from someone of legal ownership)

Bring back capital punishment is what I say. I blame protesters, they protest on absolutely everything. And instead of spending money banning all the swords, try clamping down on the criminals, building more prisons. But I guess they do what they think is best, even though we don't think it's right.
