Where/when was this? According to official canon, lightsabers are rather lightweight. How exactly would the Jedi wield them so quickly if they weighed that much?

Everything George Lucas did after 1990 is strictly fan fiction if you ask me. They can't be that heavy because we see characters casually toss them from hand to hand from time to time. No one can casually toss 3 bowling balls.

The force helps alot you know, Jedi are supposed to be stronger faster and more smart than regular humans.
Simply enough as you watch more and more proficient Jedi then you realize their techniques are faster. For eg. The fight between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan was a fight between two old fogies not as strong in the force as say others. Also when Luke started to use one hand in stead of both it meant that he was letting the force carry more... savvy?

Interesting points, however, pretty much anyone who trains will end up with faster and better techniques. Also, regardless of the Force, how excactly do you think it would be possible for something so small to be so heavy? Even if the lightsaber was made of solid iron, it still wouldn't hit the 50lbs mark.

Han Solo picks it up and uses it to cut a nice swath in the beginning of Empire Strikes Back (which is still cannon ) and he doesn't seem to struggle with it as if it was the full weight. Han Solo sure couldn't use the Force as he calls it a 'hokey religion.'

Also, the battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader was epic. The lack of technical skill (i.e. random gymnastics) can be attributed to the fact that they had both gotten rusty with the weapon in duels.

I think if he said that he must have been high or just wasn't thinking about how heavy 50 pounds is. Thy look like they would be lighter than the average sword.

The reason the fights were so slow is cuz the actors were slow and it was old technology. There would be no point if having it be that heavy even if you could use the force.

The crystals they use to form the weapons weigh alot and hey this is starwars. How do you think Obi-Wan could drop it from like 1000 feet and it be fine?

Han Solo used both hands and he's an adult. He was in the Imperial Academy at one point so he must've been strong.

I know its all fantasy, but I still disagree that they even COULD be more than 10 lbs. Not only isn't it practical, nothing in that amount of mass is that heavy.

Perhaps what Hajilee means is that the crystals and other materials were extremely (and unrealistically) dense, and that is what caused their immense weight?

That sword is awesome. However, don't expect everyone on the thread to know what that, or even Bleach, is.

I have heard of Bleach, just no idea what it is about. What is the big deal with the sword?

In Bleach the main character is a Soul Reaper or Shinigami. He essentially fights demons. The swords are called soul slayers or Zanpakuto and are essentially living embodiments of their powers, key word being living. Each Zanpakuto has different levels of connection/release with their Soul Reaper partner. The first is unreleased or sealed, it will look like a normal katana. The second is shikai and will look original when compared to other other Zanpakuto. The third is the most powerful release as it is the expression of true harmony with or control over the spirit of the Zanpakuto, this is called Bankai. Generally only Captains have Bankai, however there are a few characters not of that rank that have reached the level. Such as Ichigo's Bankai with Zangetsu that begets Tensa Zangetsu.

Sidenote... To learn more about Bleach you could go to wikipedia as their info is very accurate however I doubt you would understand it. Go to youtube and check out the series, its my fave anime that has yet to have its ending written.

I would like to add that with most Bankai, the Zanpakuto's soul will appear as a mythical creature or some sort of warrior. With Renji's it is (if I am not mistaken) a white baboon with a snake for a tail. Zangetsu actually looks like a thirtysomething man with a black trench coat, quite a bit of hair, and sunglasses. In Bankai form Zangetsu is a black odachi with the manji (a kanji character for "full", though in the West it is sadly only known as the Nazi symbol) for a tsuba (guard).
