Anyways, here is a modern representation of a dirk. A more classical take would be straight smooth blade, one edged, bone or wood handle, around 14 inches long. Good for fighting in the off hand, or when backed into a corner. Useually hidden in the kilt folds or boot.

That is a very beautiful piece of art. Too beautiful to be used as a killing tool.

Hanwei? that is one of the companies we get our rapiers from. your right on the price being higher than most, but i have never seen one fail (the rapiers that is) and my wife's has lasted for 4 years of combat.

note on the dirk. it was a wonderful weapon for punching through the armor of a knight at the arm pit or groin. all of the Scottish applications i have seen with them have indicated that you should be on the offensive from the moment the blade clears the scabbard. not a weapon for defense, but definitely good for giving someone else a bad day.
