Augustine Fong is a helluva nice guy and from what I hear, a really good teacher. I do know his chi sau is freaking awsome. As a Wing Chun sifu, I'm not sure if he'd teach spear as its not a normal Wing Chun weapon. I'm willing to bet if he doesn't teach it, he'll know someone who does though.
He teaches dragon pole but also has a guy there that does choy li fut. His chi sau is crazy dude. He competed against the Sifu of the guy who trained me in Lai Tung Pai back in Hong Kong, Sifu Fong was a really nice guy and an excellent teacher.

Spear is part of the Choy La Fut system, so he'd be good to go if he's near there. I would imagine that if the guy is part of Augustine Fong's school, he isn't going to suck.
Sifu Fong has this push/pull thing going on when he does chi sau that just throws everything you do off. You start feeling like a weeble wobble then he smacks you on the forhead. LOL

Yep, he was here at a tourney in KC. I only did it for a few moments, but it was enough. Thought it was interesting the differences in rolling with him and my sifu. I think both are as good, but very different feel to them.
I am about 3 hours drive away from Phoenix. to far for me to be serious about attending classes, but i would love to know more about a guy that gets such high praise. i often spend long weekends in Phoenix, and I'll make a point to look him up, or at least his school. thanks for the input.

Augustine Fong is very well known in kung fu circles. I'm sure you'll be able to find lots of info on him. If you go see him, let us know your thoughts!
Quick Question. i don't often (as in never before) circulate in Kung Fu circles. is there anything i should know in accords to etiquette, or really, anything?

I've never trained in a weapon longer than a Jo Staff due to personal preference for short fighting range. However, I have been told that spear is an excellent weapon for improving the baseline power of my strikes. Is this at all true cus I don't want to waste my time studying the spear for this reason if it isn't.

If trained properly the spear can help improve your core muscles, limb strength, and timing. All long weapons will do that if trained properly. Of course the heavier the weapon, the more noticable and quicker the difference. Maybe try the monk's spade or Kwan dao

Could I ask, is this a much different training than weight lifting? As in, do they train the muscles in different... Directions? Bah, that made no sense.
