When you're in the pits

What do you do when your school is taking up all of your time, you can't practice. Then when you get to martial arts you screw the whole deal so badly that you feel like a complete and utter noob. Can't get the patterns right, can't kick right, punch right, move right, excercise long enough. When all the horrible things that can happen at martial arts, like getting that fear of being hit. I have no idea how it got there, but I just won't accept blows anymore. It's infuriating. I want to hit and put it all but my body does these wierd, wiggle jiggle duck, lean and turn things. I want to throw a punch but every time I do that I screw it.

I think everyone goes through something like this at times. I know it sounds trite, but its all mental. Take a deep breath and realize that it isn't the end of the world. Once you do that you'll relax and things will flow better. Keep working, but don't force it. If you have to, take a small break to catch your breath so to speak. Go back to your basics in your martial arts and work on those.

Unfortunately it doesn't get any better as you get older. As long as you don't let things tie you in knots then you'll get through it.

Hang in there, Hajilee. Everyone goes through slumps, but the key to overcoming them is to perservere through them. When you are back in balance, this down time will have given you time to reflect on yourself, your limitations and challenges. In the end, you'll find that you are even stronger because you stuck it out and kept on practicing and training.

To overcome these things, train more, harder and better...

If school takes up your MA time, practice MA early in the morning (Eg. 5.15-7.00)...

School systems in America suck. At this point we pay the second most for each child in americas education, and are way down on the list of successful schooling. I think that all schools should be private, and the gov gives you money to attend those schools instead of this public school crap. We would have way more time on our hands, get a better education, and have way less stress. I should run for president....

Oh ya, I forgot to reply to the topic. Uh I have been in your situation a lot, and I would say it is from training too much, and continually asking your body to perform at its peak over and over again without breaks. I don't know if that is your situation, but that is where I often find myself. Take a couple days off, just do stretching during that time, and you will feel in tip top shape.
